Court documents showed that Syaifudin Alfitroh, 32, was carrying the pointed knife in the departure hall of Terminal 4 at around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 27, The Straits Times reported.
The knife measured 19.5 centimeters, including a 12-centimeter blade, and was wrapped in multiple layers of plastic bags and tape, according to police.
An aviation security officer operating an X-ray machine detected a suspicious sharp object in Syaifudin’s right shoe at a centralized screening area, AsiaOne reported.
The officer instructed him to remove the shoe before he proceeded through the screening lane. Syaifudin was then escorted to a search room, where officers found the knife and its sheath concealed inside his right high-cut shoe.

He is being held in remand, and his case is scheduled to be heard again on Sept. 7. If convicted, he could face up to three years in prison and at least six strokes of the cane.
Police said they take a serious view of attempts to bring offensive weapons into public spaces.
“Travellers are reminded that those found in possession of offensive weapons without lawful purpose will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law,” police said.
