Liverpool's summer signing Ronald Araujo has admitted he is still adapting to the relentless speed of English football after completing his high-profile loan switch from Barcelona. The Uruguay international arrived at Anfield to strengthen a back line that had already seen Ibrahima Konate leave for Real Madrid earlier in the transfer window.

Araujo settling into life on Merseyside

Liverpool acted quickly to bring Araujo in on a temporary deal before the current season. The 27-year-old defender was signed to plug the gap left by Konate after the French defender's move to Real Madrid.

The Reds also considered the Uruguayan an important option on the right side of their defence. That tactical move came after Jeremie Frimpong's early difficulties in making an instant impression at right-back following his own arrival at the club.

After a hard-earned 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, the versatile centre-back opened up on his first experiences in England. Having come off the bench against both Newcastle United and Forest, Araujo is still adjusting to the unrelenting demands of the league.

A brutal physical wake-up call

The former Barcelona captain made no attempt to hide his surprise while speaking about the tough adjustment to English football. "From the moment I put on this Liverpool shirt, I understood what the Premier League is really about," Araujo said.

"The speed is on a completely different level: it's pure intensity, strong physical battles, and you don't get even a second to think," he continued. "Coming on as a substitute in these first few matches against teams like Newcastle and Forest, you quickly understand that you have to be at 100 per cent from the very moment your boots hit the pitch."

While comparing his new environment with the Spanish top flight, the defender pointed to a clear difference in styles. "Don't get me wrong, you can never disrespect La Liga," he added. "It's a league shaped by incredible tactics and technical quality, and winning titles there taught me a lot. But the Premier League is on another level when it comes to pure physical power and outright pace."

Building his place at Anfield

In spite of that early shock, Araujo sees the Premier League's punishing demands as the ultimate test for a defender. He feels that making it in England is the highest standard an elite centre-back can prove himself against.

"I honestly believe that if a defender can establish himself in this environment, if he can impose himself, survive these weekly battles, and thrive in England, he could go back to La Liga and completely dominate without any trouble," Araujo concluded. "Every minute I spend here is a battle, and I'm ready to fight for my place at Anfield."

A familiar challenge on the European stage

Araujo will now hope to make his first start when Liverpool travel to take on Ipswich Town in their next Premier League match. With Frimpong struggling for form and Konate gone, the Uruguayan has a major chance to secure a regular place in the starting XI.

Focus will then shift to Europe, where the Reds open their Champions League campaign at Anfield against Atletico Madrid. That European opener offers a very familiar test for Araujo, who knows Diego Simeone's side extremely well from his years in La Liga.
