There are reports that Ajit Agarkar may be removed from his position as Team India’s Chief Selector. Ajit Agarkar’s tenure as the Indian team’s Chief Selector ends in September this year. This is his second term after receiving a three-month extension in June. Previously, it was reported that the BCCI would extend Agarkar’s tenure from September until next year’s ODI World Cup. However, following the recent events during the England tour, there are reports that the BCCI is considering removing Agarkar. According to a report in Dainik Jagran, some BCCI officials are considering replacing Agarkar with VVS Laxman as Team India’s new Chief Selector.
BCCI is upset with what happened during the England tour!
Now the question is, what happened during the England tour that has put Ajit Agarkar’s position as chief selector in jeopardy? Reports of Rohit’s career ending surfaced before the second ODI of the recent England tour. After that, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, without consulting the chief selector, declared that Rohit would play as long as he was part of the team’s plans. And then Rohit scored a century there. All these events have complicated the situation for Agarkar rather than improving it.
Will VVS Laxman replace Ajit Agarkar?
A section of the BCCI is considering replacing Ajit Agarkar with VVS Laxman as chief selector. These board officials believe Laxman’s views will receive more weight and that senior players like Rohit and Virat will also heed his advice.
Decision may be taken in September, series against Sri Lanka is important
According to a report in Jagran, the BCCI is currently in a dilemma between the decision to remove Agarkar and appoint VVS Laxman as chief selector. Simply put, the matter is currently under consideration, and a final decision could be made at the BCCI’s annual meeting in September.
It is being said that everything will be decided by the outcome of the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. If Team India manages to win the Test series, Ajit Agarkar’s tenure could be extended. Clearly, Ajit Agarkar is not completely gone yet, and all eyes are now on Team India to see how they perform on Sri Lankan soil.
