In a surprising development, fresh reports suggest that Manchester United have yet to reach a final decision on whether to proceed with the signing of Ederson from Atalanta, despite the player having already undergone a medical examination.

The agreement between the two clubs was originally finalised on June 2 for €40.5 million, with an additional €4.5 million in potential performance-related bonuses.

However, the transfer was delayed as Ederson was in the United States with the Brazil national team participating in the 2026 World Cup. As a result, he was only able to complete an initial round of medical assessments while abroad.

Following his return, Manchester United requested further medical tests to clarify a specific issue. After 48 hours of detailed scans, multiple outlets reported that the Premier League side had decided to pull out of the transfer.

According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano, and Sportitalia, Manchester United informed Atalanta that they would not proceed with the deal.

However, more recent updates from BBC Sport and Sky Sports Deutschland indicate that a final decision has yet to be confirmed, suggesting that negotiations may still be ongoing.

Italian media outlets have insisted that Ederson has no significant injury problems, implying instead that Manchester United may have simply reconsidered their position over the past five weeks.

This uncertainty has led to speculation that Manchester United could be looking to renegotiate the terms of the agreement, although Atalanta are reportedly reluctant to alter the existing deal structure.
