According to a recent report by journalist Graeme Bailey, Manchester United are preparing to ramp up their pursuit of AS Roma midfielder Manu Kone. The report suggests that the Red Devils are eager to finalise a deal for the French star during the ongoing transfer window.
Kone delivered a strong campaign for the Italian side, producing a series of impressive performances in midfield. The 25-year-old contributed two goals and three assists across 37 appearances for Roma last season in all competitions.
As one of the most promising midfielders currently playing in Serie A, it comes as no surprise that Manchester United have identified Kone as a target ahead of the new season.
The midfielder’s existing contract with the Italian club runs until the summer of 2029, which could make negotiations challenging for United if they hope to secure him at a lower price this summer.
Kone, known for his robust tackling and sharp positional sense, often regains possession effectively in his own half. He is also adept at clearing danger when opponents build pressure and demonstrates reliable passing accuracy when distributing the ball.
In addition to his defensive contributions, the Frenchman has shown an ability to score and create vital goals from midfield. While his primary role is that of a box-to-box midfielder, he is also capable of operating as a defensive midfielder when required. However, it remains to be seen whether Kone can adapt swiftly to the physical demands and high tempo of the Premier League should the Red Devils succeed in signing him this transfer window.
Kone’s arrival would undoubtedly strengthen Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick’s midfield options. His skill set and versatility make him a strong candidate for earning a regular starting position at Old Trafford in the coming seasons.
At just 25, Kone is entering the prime years of his career, making him an attractive option for United to consider this summer. Taking everything into account, Carrick would be wise to prioritise bringing the French midfielder to the Theatre of Dreams before the transfer window closes.
