Curtis Jones’ Potential Inter Switch Hinges on Manchester City’s Pursuit of Elliot Anderson as Liverpool Star Awaits Transfer Chain Reaction

Inter Milan are reportedly preparing a move for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, but the deal’s completion is dependent on a complex sequence of transfers involving Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. The Nerazzurri view the English midfielder as a cornerstone for their future midfield setup, provided the financial conditions align in their favour.

The £130 million trigger behind the move

The fate of Inter’s summer transfer activity could rest with Manchester City and Nottingham Forest. At the centre of this intricate network is Elliot Anderson, the 23-year-old Forest midfielder who has attracted massive interest from top clubs. Currently representing England under Thomas Tuchel at the World Cup, Anderson’s market value has soared after a sensational season in the Premier League.

Manchester City are leading the race to sign him, although their recent £120 million bid was turned down by Forest. Forest are holding out for a British record fee, and if City meet their valuation, the resulting financial boost for the Midlands club could trigger a domino effect across Europe.

Frattesi’s exit could open the door

Should Manchester City finalise the headline-grabbing signing of Anderson, Nottingham Forest are expected to turn to Serie A in search of a replacement, according to Gazzetta dello Sport. Forest have long admired Davide Frattesi, and the funds from the City deal would enable them to meet Inter’s €30 million asking price. Their earlier reluctance to move for the Italian international was reportedly due to budget constraints.

For Inter, parting ways with Frattesi would be a necessary step to balance their finances and pursue their top transfer priorities. Offloading Frattesi’s wages and generating a substantial transfer fee would allow Inter’s sporting directors, Piero Ausilio and Giuseppe Marotta, to reopen talks with Liverpool for their main midfield target.

Bridging the gap with Liverpool

Curtis Jones remains a prime target for Inter, but discussions with Liverpool have been slow due to differences in valuation. Inter’s recent €20 million offer was rejected by Liverpool’s management, who are holding out for a figure closer to €30 million. The Reds are also insisting on the inclusion of a significant sell-on clause for the academy graduate, who has spent his entire career on Merseyside.

The proceeds from Frattesi’s potential sale to Nottingham Forest would give Inter the financial capacity to meet Liverpool’s €30 million demand. With Jones reportedly open to a new challenge in Italy and eager to feature in the Champions League with Inter, the final negotiations are expected to centre around the percentage of any future resale once the funds are secured.

Jones ready for a new chapter in Italy

Jones played an influential role in Liverpool’s 2025–26 campaign, featuring in 49 matches across all competitions, scoring three goals, and contributing three assists. Having joined Liverpool’s youth academy at the age of nine and making his senior debut in 2019, he has remained a one-club player throughout his career.

If the move goes through, Jones would be joining an Inter side that dominated Italian football last season, completing a remarkable domestic double by lifting both the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia.
