Liverpool have prepared a list of alternative signings should their pursuit of Yan Diomande fail to materialise this summer.
The Ivorian forward is among the Reds’ top priorities during the transfer window, but RB Leipzig remain unwilling to part ways with the winger for anything below their asking price. This stance has complicated negotiations, especially after Liverpool saw their initial bid turned down by the Bundesliga club.
Reports indicate that the two clubs have been in discussions for several weeks, with an offer of approximately £86 million already rejected by the German side. As a result, transfer journalist Ben Jacobs has highlighted three other players Liverpool are considering if the Diomande deal cannot be completed, including one currently playing in the Premier League.
Among Liverpool’s backup targets is Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yankuba Minteh, who has caught attention with his performances on the South Coast following his move from Newcastle United. The Gambian’s pace and direct style have made him an attractive option for the Merseyside club.
Joining Minteh on the shortlist are Köln winger Said El Mala and Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo, with Liverpool focusing on recruiting players who bring speed and attacking dynamism to the flanks. Belgian winger Fernandez-Pardo, in particular, has impressed scouts with his acceleration and technical quality.
In a social media update, Jacobs explained that all three players are being considered as “options in case Diomande doesn’t arrive,” while also revealing that Bradley Barcola is another player Liverpool have monitored closely this summer.
With Mohamed Salah expected to leave Anfield this summer, Liverpool are prioritising the addition of young, high-potential attackers to strengthen the squad under new manager Andoni Iraola. The Spanish coach is eager to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title in the coming seasons.
In addition to their interest in Diomande, Liverpool are nearing the signing of Osasuna and Spain winger Victor Munoz. The Reds reportedly hijacked Newcastle United’s attempt to bring the player to St James’ Park by triggering his release clause. Munoz’s transfer is anticipated to be finalised soon, further boosting Liverpool’s attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Whether Diomande ultimately completes his move to Anfield will depend on how far Liverpool are willing to go financially to meet RB Leipzig’s valuation. If not, their backup plans indicate that the club are well prepared to strengthen their attack regardless of the outcome.
