Action will be taken against selling samosas and pakoras in newspapers
FSSAI New Rules: A new rule has been implemented in India for shopkeepers selling samosa, vada pav, pakodas and other food items. Now giving food items wrapped or packed in newspaper will be considered illegal. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has banned it in the entire country. If a shopkeeper does not follow this rule, legal action can be taken against him and he can also be punished.
Why was this new rule implemented?
An incident in Mumbai became the main reason behind this decision. There a vada pav seller was selling food items packed in newspaper to customers. After the matter came to light, the western regional team of FSSAI and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took joint action. After this, strict instructions were issued in this regard to all the states across the country.

How dangerous is newspaper for health?
- Experts say that many harmful chemicals and heavy metals may be present in the ink used for printing on newspapers.
- When hot food comes in direct contact with newspaper, these elements can get into the food and cause harm to health.
- Apart from this, newspaper passes through many hands and places, due to which it can also contain bacteria and other harmful germs.

Now food will be served only in food-grade packaging
FSSAI has clarified that now only food-grade packaging material should be used for packing and serving food items. All state governments and local administrations have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to this rule and not allow newspaper to be used for food items anywhere.
