New era of social media
For today’s youth, LinkedIn is no longer just a means of finding a job, but it has become a platform where they are always trying to look perfect. Due to the influence of this social media, the boundaries between home and workplace have completely disappeared. A company named ‘JT’ conducted a survey in February 2026, in which 919 working youth aged 18 to 27 years were interviewed. The survey’s ‘Gen G Digital Boundaries Report’ made it clear that young people are concerned about how they appear online. The situation is that 95% of the youth are not able to express their feelings on the internet due to fear of job. At the same time, 90% of the youth have faced reprimand or controversy in the office due to some of their posts.
Importance of image in office
Nowadays, not only the quality of your work is considered in companies, but your online image is also important. If anything you say is misinterpreted on social media, your hard work may go waste. An old post, comment or screenshot can hurt your image. Unless clear guidelines are made for office and social media, employees will have to face this pressure to look perfect.
New form of relationships on social media
Office relationships are no longer limited to just work or email, but have also extended to personal accounts like Instagram and Facebook. According to statistics, employees have to add office colleagues on their social media. 57% of employees have included their coworkers in their list, while 57% have also added their manager. Additionally, 44% have managers from other departments and 21% have their juniors in their friend list.
New solutions for youth
To avoid the fear of social media, youth are not stopping using the Internet, rather they are adopting new methods to protect their jobs. Many people keep their accounts private and think before posting anything so that there is no problem in the office. Some people use separate accounts for home and office and delete old photos or posts. Now they share their personal things only with a few special friends.
habit of remaining silent
The most important aspect of this report is that when 95% people are not able to talk openly on their social media due to fear, then gradually they are getting into the habit of remaining silent. The social media whose purpose was to share one’s views is now keeping people silent due to the fear of office. In today’s time, the rule of closing office hours has completely ended. This pressure to work and create a positive image remains on employees 24/7 through various apps and phone screens.
