DC did not know what hit them in Match 48 of IPL 2026 as CSK’s Sanju Samson went on the rampage mode. Chasing a target of 156, CSK won by eight wickets with 15 balls to spare. Samson was the main destroyer of DC with 87 not out in 52 balls with seven fours and six sixes. Thanks to the victory, CSK remain in 6th place with four games left to play.

Before this 50, Samson also had two 100s in this edition. He is the only one to score two centuries in this season so far. After a shaky start, Samson has rediscovered the form he displayed in India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign that saw him named as the Player of the Tournament.

A Brilliant IPL 2026 for Sanju Samson So Far

In 10 innings from 10 games so far in IPL 2026, Samson has made 402 runs at an average of 57.42 plus a strike rate of 167.50. He’s not just quick but consistent as well. The 31-year-old is also a top contender for the Orange Cap by the time this edition ends. Not to mention, he is also the wicketkeeper of his side.

Time for Sanju Samson to Be Back in ODIs?

This begs the question that many people have been asking. Is it time for the selectors to bring him into the ODI side? Rishabh Pant has not been in good form and while KL Rahul is the 1st choice keeper-batter, Samson can serve as the backup. In fact, Samson could also play as a specialist batter. The 2027 ODI World Cup is less than 18 months away and India need to start building the team.

Sanju Samson for the ODI World Cup in 2027?

India do have several ODI series lined up after the IPL. This is the chance to try Samson out and see if he can replicate his form in the shortest format. The man is clearly knocking on the doors. Will the selectors take notice and open it? That remains to be seen.

ODI Stats of Sanju Samson

The right-hander's ODI record is not bad at all. He batted 14 times in 16 matches and scored 510 runs. Samson averages 56.66 with one 100 and three 50s. A strike rate of 99.60 proves he’s a fast scorer as well. His personal best is 108. Samson made his ODI debut in 2021 but has not played the format since 2023. His T20I debut was even earlier in 2015. He’s yet to play Tests.
