New Delhi. After the tragedy in Nepal, India is continuously cooperating in relief and rescue operations. 275 Indian citizens are still missing. Of these, 49 are missing from China. Expressing solidarity with the government and people of Nepal, India has also reiterated its commitment to continue cooperation in reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told the weekly press conference on Friday that so far 166 Indian citizens have been rescued safely in Nepal. At the same time, 1,907 Indian citizens from China have reached Nepal safely. At present no Indian traveler is stranded in Tibet.
India has sent 54 experts and personnel to Nepal for relief and rescue operations. These include 30 tunnel rescue experts, 19 forensic experts and a five-member medical team. Indian rescue and forensic teams are working closely with local authorities in Nepal.
The spokesperson said that India has so far sent about 95 tonnes of relief material and seven aircraft in the relief and rescue operation to Nepal. Two Indian planes arrived in Kathmandu yesterday carrying 21 tonnes of relief material. More first aid kits and other essential materials will be sent in the coming days as per the need of Nepal.
On a question to climate change, Jaiswal said that India considers it a common challenge. He said that action to deal with this challenge should be based on the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities. According to him, developed countries, which have historically been responsible for higher emissions, should take the lead in reducing emissions and providing finance and technology to developing countries.
