Dubai, August 30: The Women's Asia Cup 2026 promises an exciting day for cricket fans this Sunday. The Indian women's team is set to face Thailand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
However, anticipation is building for the highly awaited match and Pakistan, scheduled for September 5.
Relations between India and Pakistan have been strained for a long time. The rift became evident on the cricket field after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. Since then, players from both nations have refrained from shaking hands. Fans are left wondering whether this trend will continue during the Asia Cup 2026.
During a press conference before the match against Thailand, Indian team head coach Amol Majumdar addressed the question of whether the Indian team would shake hands with Pakistani players. He stated, "We focus on playing the best cricket on the field and do not dwell on off-field matters. We will discuss this when that match comes, but right now, our focus is on the match against Thailand."
Thailand has made a strong start in the tournament, winning their opening match against Hong Kong by six runs. This will be the Indian team's first match in the tournament, and they will certainly approach it with caution against Thailand.
Regarding the upcoming match, Majumdar emphasized the need for a strong start in the tournament. "We need to focus on starting well. We will aim to play aggressive cricket to achieve better results," he said.
The Indian team's recent performance in the T20 format has been disappointing. On this, Majumdar remarked, "We do not focus too much on form. You are referring to our performance over the last six months in T20. We know there is plenty of room for improvement in this team, which has young players. We are trying to play good and aggressive cricket."
