Jobs for bank clerks are highly sought after. In addition to basic pay, bank clerks receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, and other benefits.

Jobs in the banking sector are a frequent topic of discussion among the youth. Key reasons for this include attractive salaries, job security, and career growth opportunities over time. The role of a bank clerk is popular for these very reasons. Clerks receive allowances such as DA, HRA, and transport allowance alongside their basic pay.

Amidst discussions regarding potential changes under the 8th Pay Commission, questions are arising about how much bank clerks' salaries might increase. Estimates suggest that the basic salary could see a significant revision based on the 'fitment factor.' Let us explore how much the salary is likely to rise following the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.

What is the current salary of a bank clerk?

The starting basic pay for an IBPS Clerk is ₹19,900. Allowances such as Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA, Special Allowance, and Transport Allowance are also included in the salary package. Data indicates that the starting in-hand salary ranges from approximately ₹28,000 to ₹30,000, though this varies based on the posting location and applicable allowances. Meanwhile, the basic salary for an SBI Clerk is ₹17,900 per month. After adding DA, HRA, transport allowance, and other benefits, the gross salary can reach around ₹46,000. The in-hand salary, after deductions, stands at approximately ₹42,327.

There is talk of a 2.57 fitment factor being considered for the 8th Pay Commission. If such a fitment factor is implemented, the basic salary could undergo a significant revision. Estimates suggest that the current basic salary of an IBPS Clerk could rise to approximately ₹51,400. Alternatively, based on a projected fitment factor of 1.83, the basic pay could stand at around ₹36,600.

Salary could reach up to ₹75,000

A significant change in the total salary of a bank clerk is also anticipated when the revised Dearness Allowance (DA) and House Rent Allowance (HRA) are factored in alongside the fitment factor. Estimates indicate that the monthly salary of a new clerk in metro cities could reach up to ₹75,000. However, this figure is an estimate; the actual salary will depend on the fitment factor, revised allowances, posting location, and the applicable pay structure.
