Team India has started its Sri Lanka tour with a bang. The Indian team defeated Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) XI by six wickets in a three-day warm-up match. On the final day of the match (August 9), India needed 16 runs from the final over to win. The match seemed destined for a draw, but Mohammed Siraj hit three consecutive sixes to give Team India a thrilling victory.
Siraj remained unbeaten after scoring 32 runs in 15 balls. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who failed to open his account in the first innings, scored 61 runs in 46 balls. He retired hurt and returned to the pavilion. The biggest relief for the Indian team was the return of Shubman Gill. He was unable to take the field for the first two days of the warm-up match due to a finger injury sustained during practice. He returned on the last day and scored 44 runs in 54 balls. Rishabh Pant scored 28 runs in 68 balls.
Padikkal’s century in the first innings
SLC XI, batting first after winning the toss, declared their first innings at 363/8. In response, India lost 4 wickets for 174 runs, of which 103 were scored by Devdutt Padikkal. He was recalled from the field. When the innings collapsed, he was sent back to bat. Padikkal, along with the lower-order batsmen, took Team India past 350. India declared their first innings at 357/7, giving SLC XI a lead of 6 runs.
Padikkal remained unbeaten after scoring 142 runs in 164 balls with the help of 18 fours. Ravindra Jadeja scored 63 runs in 117 balls. Manav Suthar contributed 41 runs, while Saransh Jain contributed 22 runs. Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar scored unbeaten 36 runs in 18 balls. Coming to bat in their second innings on the last day, SLC XI scored 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets and declared the innings. In this way, Team India got a target of 207 runs, which they easily achieved by losing 4 wickets. Now a 2-Test match series will be played between India and Sri Lanka, which will start from 15th August.
