Marcus Rashford may yet have a future at Manchester United after all.
Rashford will have to be assigned an entirely new squad number at Manchester United after losing his previous one last summer.
The 28-year-old, who has not featured in a competitive match for Manchester United since the Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen in December 2024, has rejoined the squad after travelling to the Republic of Ireland for a pre-season training camp.
At one stage, Rashford’s United career had looked virtually finished after he was sidelined by former manager Ruben Amorim, having also spent spells on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona.
However, it now appears he could still be part of Michael Carrick’s plans for the coming season.
“I’ve played with him. I was in the match when he made his debut, so we have that history,” Carrick said when asked about Rashford after Saturday’s 1-1 friendly draw against Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg.
“We’ve got the full squad together this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days with the whole group back together.
“Marcus is part of that, and Kobbie and Lisandro. We’re looking forward to seeing them.”
After linking up with his Manchester United team-mates, it has quickly become clear that Rashford currently does not have a squad number, with his No. 10 shirt having been given to Matheus Cunha following the Brazilian’s £62.5 million move from Wolves.
That leaves the England international in a slightly awkward position. Even so, Fabrizio Romano has reported that Rashford is set to be handed the No. 14 shirt.
Rashford wore No. 14 during his loan spell at Barcelona, and that number has been vacant at Old Trafford since Christian Eriksen left the club at the end of the 2024-25 season.
