Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Australia is scheduled to tour India in January-February next year, where the two teams will play a five-match Test series. This series is known as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27. Ahead of this upcoming Test series, Australia has decided not to play practice matches against India.
Australia will not play practice matches against India
Recently, Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, made a major statement ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He clearly stated that the team will not play practice matches before the Test series in India. Teams typically play practice matches before major series to acclimatize to the conditions in India, but Australia is planning something different to trap India in their own backyard.
What did the Australian coach say?
Australia’s head coach, Andrew McDonald, recently stated in an interview that the team believes it will have enough time to adapt to these conditions. He stated that Australia will not play any practice matches before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will focus entirely on the location. According to the head coach, the team has several options for preparation, as the team has previously toured the UAE and also visited Bengaluru before their last tour of India. The preparation structure is being worked out.
South Africa to Play Tour Games Against England
Although Australia will play tour games against local teams on their upcoming tours to South Africa and England, they have a different plan for India. For the 2023 tour of India, Australia set up camp in Alur, near Bengaluru. Similarly, Australia is looking for a suitable location for its pre-series camp where it can prepare. It’s worth noting that Australia hasn’t won a Test series in India in a long time. In such a situation, this time the Kangaroo team would like to win BGT.
