Pakistan makes a big jump in the WTC Points Table, ends 8-Test losing streak by defeating West Indies

Pakistan Jumps In WTC Points Table: Pakistan defeated West Indies by 8 wickets in the second Test to take a significant lead in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27. In the match played in Port of Spain, Pakistan achieved the target of 75 runs in the fourth innings for the loss of just 2 wickets. With this victory, Pakistan also ended a streak of 8 consecutive away Test defeats.

Before this victory, Pakistan was ranked ninth in the WTC points table with just 6.00 percentage points (PCT). After this victory, Pakistan has reached eighth place with 22.22 PCT. Meanwhile, West Indies has dropped one place and slipped to ninth with 20.83 PCT. Currently, India is in fifth place with 48.15 PCT, while Australia remains at the top with 87.50 PCT.

Abdullah Shafiq’s brilliant performance

Abdullah Shafique played a key role in Pakistan’s victory. In the first innings, he scored an unbeaten 160 off 333 balls, hitting 15 fours and three sixes. With this brilliant innings, he broke a 49-year-old record. He became the first Pakistani batsman since 1977 to score more than 150 runs in a Test match on West Indies soil. He was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Abdullah Shafiq shared a crucial 183-run partnership for the third wicket with Babar Azam in the first innings. Babar Azam scored 88 runs off 147 balls but was run out. In the second innings, Babar and Shafiq remained unbeaten on 24 runs each to secure the victory.
