World Breastfeeding Week ; There is a saying that “mother’s milk is the baby’s first vaccine” and this has been scientifically proven to be true. Colostrum , also known as the first yellow milk, formed in the mother’s body after birth, is rich in antibodies and nutrients. It protects the newborn baby at a time when his or her own immune system is not yet developed.

To highlight this importance, World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August . It was started in 1992 by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF . Its aim is to make mothers aware of the importance of breast milk for their babies.

Nowadays, many mothers resort to formula milk or powdered milk, but experts say that the natural nutrients and disease-fighting elements present in breast milk are not found in any other milk.

According to Ayurveda, mother’s milk is like ‘nectar’ . This juice is made from metal and the mother’s diet, lifestyle and mental state have a direct impact on its quality.

Benefits for the child

  • Colostrum provides early immunity to the baby.
  • The risk of diarrhea and respiratory infections is reduced.
  • The child’s immune system is strengthened.
  • Helps in physical and mental development.

Benefits for the mother

  • Breastfeeding releases the hormone oxytocin , which helps the uterus return to normal quickly after delivery and reduces bleeding.
  • The risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease may be reduced.
  • The emotional bond between mother and child becomes stronger.

Experts say that a baby should be breastfed for as long as possible. Even if for some reason, full breastfeeding cannot be done for only six months, every single day is beneficial for the health of the baby and the mother.
