Fantom Events & Publishing announced his demise on social media, stating, “We are sorry to hear the news that Tom Chadbon passed away last weekend,” and continued, “Tom was a familiar face to many from his numerous television and film credits, including ‘Doctor Who,’ ‘James Bond’ and ‘Game of Thrones.’ He was always a warm and friendly man to work with, and we send our condolences to his family at this sad time.” Many fans and well-wishers shared their condolences on social media following the unprecedented and unfortunate news, reciting his iconic dialogues and moments.
Who was Tom Chadbon?
Born in Bedfordshire, England, in 1946, Tom Chadbon had a legendary career spanning 50 years, with his first television performances dating back to the 1960s. He famously appeared in ‘Doctor Who’ in 1979, where he played private detective Duggan opposite Tom Baker ’s Doctor in the ‘City of Death’ serial, according to the BBC. Chadbon featured in several projects over the years, including ‘Peep Show,’ ‘The Bill,’ ‘Midsomer Murders’ and ‘Where the Heart Is.’
In 1997, Chadbon starred alongside Charles Dance , Diana Rigg and Emilia Fox in ‘Rebecca.’ He also made regular appearances in the hospital drama ‘Casualty’ as the director of critical care. He famously starred in Daniel Craig ’s first James Bond film ‘Casino Royale’ as a stockbroker. Finally, he played High Septon Maynard in the ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 finale in 2017 as his last credited appearance.
Tom Chadbon married Deborah Elspeth Leathers in July 1966, and they separated in 1970. He tied the knot with Jane Hennessy in 1977. He has four children from his marriages.
