'Catches win matches'. This cricket saying is not popular just like that. Taking or dropping a catch changes the course of the match. Ever since the beginning of cricket, this has been true every day and in every match. In modern cricket, such methods of taking catches are being seen, which are surprising as well as change the fate of the match. One such catch was made by David Willey and Saif Zeb in the semi-finals of the T20 Blast tournament to be held in England, due to which their team reached the final.
On Saturday 18 July, defending champions Somerset faced Northamptonshire in the first semi-final of the Vitality Men's T20 Blast. In this match played in Birmingham, Northampton batted first and the team could score only 143 runs in 19.2 overs. For that, opener Chris Lynn scored the highest score of 39 runs in 26 balls. For Somerset, fast bowler Jake Ball took the maximum of 4 wickets for 17 runs.
Then came Somerset's turn, for whom this target should not have been too difficult. Despite this, Northampton's bowlers performed strongly and lost 6 wickets for just 104 runs. At such a time, Craig Overton came to the crease, who was making the team win this season by continuously playing explosive innings with the bat. Overton hit a four as soon as he arrived and made his intentions clear.
Then came the 18th over, which was being bowled by Ben Sanderson. In the same over, when Somerset needed 33 runs in 16 balls, Overton was in front of them, who had expressed his intention to make Somerset win again. Overton played the third ball of this over high in the air towards the straight boundary. The ball had almost crossed the boundary when David Willey dived and caught the ball and tossed the ball in the air before it fell outside the boundary. There Saif Zeb also caught the ball by diving and completed the catch.
This catch shocked everyone and gave a big blow to Somerset. After this, all hopes of his comeback were lost and the team could reach only 126 runs in 20 overs. In this way, this one catch played a big role in helping Northampton win by 17 runs and showed the way out to defending champion Somerset.
