Rohit Sharma once lavished rich praise on former India captain MS Dhoni during an appearance on Curly Tales, calling him the finest leader Indian cricket had ever produced while explaining what made him so successful.
Reflecting on Dhoni's remarkable achievements, Rohit said, "Whole India knows MS Dhoni is the one who has been like that. It has helped him to make such good decisions on the field and now you see he is the most successful Indian captain, having all three ICC trophies with him and many IPL titles as well. He is the best captain India has seen and there is a reason behind it and that reason is him being calm and composed under pressure situation." Rohit also highlighted Dhoni's exceptional man-management skills, particularly the way he backed young cricketers during difficult moments in matches. Sharing his experience of playing under the legendary wicketkeeper-batter, Rohit said, "I have seen him handle a lot of younger bowlers when they get under pressure, he goes around and puts his arm around their neck and talks to them what he needs to do and what not. You know when a younger player is being treated like that by the senior member of a team, you obviously feel confident and want to deliver for the team." Rohit's comments reflected the immense respect he had for Dhoni's leadership style, suggesting that his calmness, trust in players and ability to make crucial decisions under pressure were the biggest reasons behind India's success during his captaincy. Dhoni remains the only Indian captain to have won all three major ICC white-ball trophies, a legacy that continues to earn admiration from teammates and cricket fans alike.
"In cricket, you don't have the option of sleeping over a decision": MS Dhoni explains logic behind 'Captain Cool' mindset MS Dhoni opened up about the mindset that earned him the famous "Captain Cool" tag during a candid conversation with Curly Tales, explaining that staying calm was never about hiding emotions but about making the right decisions under pressure. When asked whether he ever lost his cool, the former India captain admitted that he was no different from anyone else. "I am human," Dhoni said, adding that he did get irritated when things went wrong, particularly when avoidable mistakes were made. However, he stressed that frustration was different from anger and that controlling emotions was essential for a leader. Speaking about decision-making on the cricket field, Dhoni explained that captains rarely had the luxury of time. "In cricket, you don't have the option of sleeping over a decision. You have to decide in a matter of seconds," he said, revealing that instinct and gut feeling often guided his calls during matches. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter also shared a life lesson that extended beyond cricket, saying, "In today's world, everybody keeps speaking, but we also have to listen." Dhoni acknowledged that communication had always been one of the toughest parts of leadership because he was naturally an introvert and found it difficult to express himself openly. He admitted that informing a player they had been dropped from the team was among the hardest responsibilities of being captain. Despite those challenges, Dhoni believed a leader had to put the team's interests first while ensuring players understood the reasons behind difficult decisions. His calm approach, reliance on instinct and emphasis on listening continued to define his leadership philosophy, helping him become one of cricket's most respected captains.
