Ipswich Town are still in discussions with FC Volendam regarding the potential transfer of goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen, after their opening bid was rejected. The newly promoted Premier League club face competition from Spanish side Valencia, who are reported to have already reached personal terms with the 22-year-old shot-stopper.
Ipswich intensify pursuit of Van Oevelen
The English club have increased their efforts to sign Van Oevelen from FC Volendam as they look to strengthen their goalkeeping options ahead of their Premier League campaign, according to Voetbal International. Ipswich submitted an opening offer valued at approximately €3 million, but Volendam dismissed it, believing it did not meet their valuation. Negotiations between both clubs are ongoing as they work towards agreeing on a transfer fee.
Volendam are open to selling the young goalkeeper this summer but remain determined to secure what they consider a fair price for one of their most prized players.
Volendam demand premium fee
While Volendam are not opposed to Van Oevelen’s departure, they are unwilling to sell him for less than their asking price. The Dutch club are said to be holding out for a “top price”, fully aware that the player’s market value has increased significantly despite the team’s relegation to the second division.
Van Oevelen was one of the standout performers for the side nicknamed ‘De Heen en Weer’, delivering consistent performances throughout the Eredivisie season. Although Volendam were ultimately relegated, his impressive individual displays have attracted attention from scouts across Europe, sparking a transfer battle among several notable clubs.
Rising competition for Dutch talent
Despite reports of Valencia having agreed personal terms with the player, Ipswich still have a realistic chance to complete the signing. The Spanish side have not yet submitted an official offer, keeping the door open for the Premier League club to finalise a deal by meeting Volendam’s financial expectations.
Van Oevelen’s reputation has grown over the past two seasons. He played a key role in helping Volendam secure promotion from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and later impressed in the Eredivisie. Although he missed the final two matches of last season due to injury, he has since made a full recovery.
Transfer negotiations set to continue
Talks between Ipswich and Volendam are expected to carry on as the Premier League side consider submitting an improved offer. With Valencia yet to formalise their interest, the race for Van Oevelen remains wide open. The 22-year-old looks set to leave Volendam this summer, and his next destination will likely depend on which club meets the Dutch team’s valuation first.
