Poland Supports India UNSC Seat: India has recently started a campaign to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term of 2028-29. India needs the support of 128-129 countries to become a temporary member of UNSC. Meanwhile, Poland has announced its full support to India.
Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski, Secretary of State of the Foreign Ministry of Poland, while talking to the media, said that his country has been supporting India on this issue for a long time and will continue to stand with India in future also. India has so far received support from countries like America, Japan, France and Britain.
India becomes permanent member of Security Council
Bartoszewski said that Poland wants India to become a permanent member of the Security Council. However, he also admitted that making changes in the UNSC is not easy. The biggest reason for this is that any major change in the structure of the Council requires the consent of all the existing permanent members. Since every permanent member has the right to veto, if even one country opposes the change, the reform process cannot proceed.
Bartoszewski said that many countries want the expansion of the UN, but some members prefer to maintain the existing system. He made it clear that Poland will continue to fully support India’s demand for permanent membership and will continue cooperation with India in this direction.
Strong relations between India and Poland
Strengthening defense cooperation between India and Poland was also discussed. The Polish minister said that both countries are working on an agreement for the exchange of confidential or sensitive defense information. He said that with such an agreement, cooperation in the defense sector between the two countries will become easier.
He also informed that India has shown interest in many military equipment and defense platforms of Poland. Both the countries are also considering the possibility of joint production of these equipment. This may also include manufacturing of military equipment as well as modern defense systems such as drones and satellites.
