Although, the history of Delhi has been quite long from Hastinapur to Delhi, but in view of today’s situation and increasing threats, speculations about changing the capital have increased.

The history of changing the capital in India is old. Before the year 1911, Kolkata used to be the capital of India and Shimla was made the capital during the summer season. Not only this, in 1858 Allahabad was made the capital of India for just one day. Even in medieval India, capitals kept changing in different regions. The capital was shifted from Kolkata to Delhi in 1911 during British rule.

Why is there a demand to shift the capital from Delhi?

In today’s modern era, increasing pollution, traffic problems and environmental concerns have become a big challenge in Delhi. Many experts believe that in future it may be very difficult to run the administrative work of the country from Delhi. Keeping in view the security and administrative reasons, now a debate has arisen whether any other safe place other than Delhi can be a better option for the capital?

Names of which cities are in discussion?

Different opinions are emerging regarding shifting the capital. Some people are suggesting that it should be shifted to Chennai, Bengaluru, Mysore or Hyderabad in South India. At the same time, some experts believe that it should be shifted to some central part of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar or Rajasthan or some safe place in Central India. However, it is important to clarify that as of now there is no official proposal from the Government of India to change the capital from Delhi and for the time being New Delhi will remain the capital of India.
