Roy Keane has shared his thoughts on how teams can overcome France at the 2026 World Cup, following Les Bleus’ 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco.
France appeared poised to take an early lead when Kylian Mbappe was brought down inside the penalty area, but the Real Madrid forward was unable to convert from the spot.
However, Mbappe redeemed himself later with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box to make it 1-0, before providing an assist for Ousmane Dembele’s goal that secured France’s second of the match.
That win ensured France maintained their perfect defensive record in the knockout stages, having not conceded a single goal in three games. They now await the winner of the Spain vs Belgium tie in the semi-finals.
Former Republic of Ireland captain and Manchester United great Roy Keane praised France’s quality but insisted that they are not invincible.
Keane remarked, “Morocco were running on empty, and France were far superior in every area of the pitch. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be beaten.”
He continued, “France are in an excellent position. Their attacking players are finding the net, and their individuals are taking on defenders with confidence.”
Keane then outlined what he sees as the key to defeating Didier Deschamps’ side: “If you want any chance of beating France, you have to score the first goal. If you don’t, they’ll pick you off for fun.”
Former France international Patrick Vieira also offered his assessment of the current French squad, calling it “perhaps one of the best generations ever.”
Vieira said, “When you look at the squad and the attacking options they have, it’s maybe one of the best generations we’ve ever seen. There are so many incredible players—it’s absolutely unbelievable.”
