Manchester United’s quest to find a suitable successor for Casemiro has encountered multiple setbacks so far.
The Red Devils have seen their pursuits of Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes fail to materialise as planned.
Now, INEOS have identified Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as their next major target, though completing such a deal appears far from straightforward.
The Cherries remain reluctant to part ways with the English midfielder, as they are currently working towards securing a new long-term contract for the 22-year-old.
Although Scott, formerly of Bristol City, has yet to commit his future to paper, Bournemouth officials at the Vitality Stadium are calm about the situation.
With the “unbelievable” midfielder attracting significant interest across the league, the South Coast club have placed an £80 million valuation on him, factoring in the current inflated transfer market.
The 20-time English champions had previously withdrawn from discussions with West Ham when the London club demanded £85 million for Mateus Fernandes, a move that allowed Tottenham Hotspur to finalise their own deal for the player.
However, as per a report from The Sun, Manchester United are not ruling out the possibility of matching Bournemouth’s hefty price tag for Alex Scott.
“Manchester United are not ruling out a bid for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott despite his £80 million valuation.
“Scott, 22, remains United’s preferred Premier League target after Elliot Anderson completed his British record £130 million transfer to Manchester City and Mateus Fernandes joined Tottenham Hotspur for £85 million.
“The valuations of key midfielders across the Premier League have risen sharply in response to those record-breaking transfers.
“Scott’s teammate Tyler Adams has also been mentioned as a potential option for United, but the club’s focus remains firmly on Scott. Adams will turn 28 next season, while United’s recruitment strategy is centred around players aged between 22 and 26.”
Supporters will welcome signs of INEOS taking decisive action in the transfer market if this development proves accurate. Some may still question why the club’s co-owners did not pursue Fernandes more aggressively if they are now open to meeting Scott’s valuation.
Manager Michael Carrick, however, will not be complaining. He is eager to bring in at least three new midfield options as part of his broader efforts to strengthen the team’s core.
