Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s, much awaited India debut ended way too soon after England’s Will Jacks put in a smart bit of bowling in the second T20I at Old Trafford, Manchester. The 15-year-old looked pretty sure of himself early on and went after a few fearless shots , before getting dismissed for just 14 runs.
For a moment, the young left-hander looked right at home at the crease, didn’t really show any signs of pressure at all. He smacked two huge sixes in his 10-ball stay , and that gave Indian fans a quick taste of his skill. His aggressive mindset also helped India move fast during the powerplay.

But Will Jacks had other ideas. Once Vaibhav stepped out, the off-spinner sent down a flat delivery, outside the off stump. Vaibhav tried to go for a cut, but he couldn’t quite make a clean connection. England captain and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler picked up the ball cleanly, and the bails were taken off in a flash.
The call was reviewed by the third umpire, yet the replay was pretty clear that Vaibhav’s foot was outside the crease when the bails came off. So the youngster had to go back after scoring 14 runs off 10 balls , at a strike rate of 140.
Even if the innings was brief, Vaibhav still looked confident, and he seemed ready to take on the England bowlers. The debut ended with disappointment, sure…but he still offered enough hints that he could become a key player for India down the road.

India had a fast start, though after losing Vaibhav
India decided to bat first after winning the toss, and they started briskly in Manchester. By the time Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got out, the visitors were already 55 for 1 in 5.1 overs, running at 10.65 an over.
Abhishek Sharma kept attacking and stayed unbeaten on 34 from 20 balls, with six fours and one six. Ishan Kishan had just arrived, and was still waiting to open his account.
India also picked up seven extra runs, including six wides, and one leg bye, which kept the scoring pace ticking above ten an over.
For England, Jofra Archer bowled two overs for 15, without taking a wicket. Josh Tongue ended up giving 25 in his two overs, and included five wides in that. Will Jacks broke the partnership with his only over—he conceded nine runs, while removing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi via a smart delivery that resulted in a straightforward stumping by Jos Buttler. Sam Curran delivered one ball and gave away five runs, including a wide.
So yeah, Vaibhav’s debut may have ended earlier than he wanted, but his fearless batting and the positive start still gave Indian supporters plenty of reasons to feel hopeful about what’s coming next.
