Marc-André ter Stegen is reportedly close to sealing a surprising loan transfer to Ajax Amsterdam after all parties reached an agreement in principle for a season-long deal, as reported by Sky Germany.
According to the report, Ajax have successfully negotiated terms with both the German international goalkeeper and FC Barcelona. Only the final contractual details remain to be completed before the official announcement of the move.
Under the terms of the agreement, Ter Stegen will spend one season with the Dutch club on loan, without any option for a permanent purchase. Ajax are expected to benefit from the 34-year-old’s vast experience throughout the upcoming campaign, after which he will return to Barcelona.
Provided there are no last-minute complications, Ter Stegen is scheduled to undergo a medical examination next week before signing the necessary documents to finalise the move.
For the veteran shot-stopper, this transfer represents an opportunity to secure regular first-team football in a new environment, helping him stay sharp and maintain his position within the German national team ahead of forthcoming international tournaments.
