The American diplomat said that US President Donald Trump is closely associated with India-US bilateral relations. He also highlighted the need to formalize regular ministerial meetings of the Quad. "Secretary Marco Rubio invited him over when he met with PM Modi... We would love to have him back here. And I know he's coming in December for the G20," Gore said during his call.

Details of conversation with President Trump

Describing a recent high-level conversation with President Trump, Gore noted that he updated him on his official visit to India as well as the growing commercial ties between the two partner democracies.

"I have been with the President for 10 years, so a large part of the conversation was like two friends... But I also told him about my visits to India... I also talked to him about the growing trade relationship. On both sides, we see businessmen coming here and going there every week, and it's a win-win situation," the US ambassador told ANI.

What did the ambassador say on the trade agreement?

Speaking on the current status of the ongoing negotiations around the interim India-US commercial agreement, Gore said that the negotiations are progressing smoothly, even though the agreement contains thousands of different lines and requires extensive legal scrutiny.

He said, "Ambassador Greer has the full confidence of the President, and so we are close to finalizing it. But these things are complex legal matters, and this is not a one-pager. There are thousands of items between our two countries that we are working on. And the fact that we have come this far is a great sign for the relationship, and I hope we get it done as soon as possible."

Will President Trump visit India?

When asked about the possibility of President Trump making an official visit to India, Gore indicated that such a state visit would likely happen next year.

The diplomat clarified, "It's not any time during the midterm elections. It has to happen sometime next year... We would like to make it happen as soon as possible."

PM Modi was invited in May

Earlier, on May 23, Gore had shared that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had extended an official invitation on behalf of President Trump to Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House in the near future. The invitation was formally extended during Rubio's official visit to India from May 23 to 26.

The 2026 G20 summit is scheduled for December 14–15 in Miami, Florida. This will be the first time since 2009 that the United States will host the G20 leaders' summit. (ANI)
