Germany’s long-awaited return to the World Cup knockout stages, their first since lifting the trophy in 2014, will be broadcast live on the BBC.

This evening, Germany take on Paraguay with both sides eager to secure a berth in the Round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup.

Traditionally a force in the knockout rounds, the German side – known as Die Mannschaft – have not featured in this stage of the tournament since Mario Götze’s decisive strike sealed their World Cup triumph in Brazil a decade ago.

Paraguay, meanwhile, are aiming to replicate their impressive 2010 quarter-final run. As fans tune in for this highly anticipated encounter, many are wondering who will be part of the BBC’s broadcast team covering the match.

Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping for a turnaround in form after his team suffered defeat to Paraguay’s South American neighbours Ecuador, who pulled off a memorable 2-1 win in the final group fixture.

Since their emphatic opening victory over World Cup debutants Curacao, Nagelsmann’s squad have struggled to recapture their best form – a factor that could give Paraguay confidence of achieving a famous upset.
