Como have officially confirmed that Nico Paz will remain with the club for another season after reaching a formal agreement with Real Madrid. The Argentine midfield talent, who has rapidly developed into one of Serie A’s standout young stars since joining the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia outfit, will continue his upward trajectory under the guidance of head coach Cesc Fabregas.

Agreement finalised for 2026-27 season

The understanding between Real Madrid and Como ensures that Paz will continue representing the Lariani through the 2026-27 campaign. At just 21 years old, Paz has become the creative engine of Como’s midfield, and both clubs were eager to provide him with continuity in a familiar environment that fosters his ongoing development.

Real Madrid issued an official statement confirming the arrangement, emphasising that the deal was largely driven by the player’s personal wish to stay in Italy. This continuity marks a significant boost for Como as they aim to build upon their recent rise in Serie A, with Paz remaining central to their ambitions.

Real Madrid safeguard their future stake

Although the new agreement allows Paz to keep developing in Serie A, Real Madrid have ensured that their long-term interests remain intact. The deal includes a key clause granting the Spanish club a buy-back option, enabling them to retain decisive influence over the player’s next move should they decide to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The club’s official statement elaborated: “The agreement, concluded at the request of the player himself, also provides that Real Madrid maintains a unilateral option to reacquire the rights to the sporting performances of Nico Paz for the 2027-2028 season.” This buy-back clause clearly signals that Los Blancos still see Paz as a potential contributor to their future first-team plans.

Outstanding performances in Serie A

Since arriving in Italy, Paz has surpassed expectations, transforming from a promising academy graduate into one of Serie A’s most dynamic attacking midfielders. His performances have showcased exceptional consistency, vision, and composure, making him a key figure in Como’s attacking play.

Across 75 appearances in Serie A and the Coppa Italia, the Argentine has registered an impressive 19 goals and 17 assists. These statistics underline his ability to both create and finish scoring opportunities, solidifying his reputation as one of the most dangerous and complete midfielders in the Italian top flight.

Fabregas prevails in retaining his star midfielder

Paz played a crucial role in Como’s historic campaign, which culminated in Champions League qualification on the final day of the Serie A season — a remarkable achievement under Fabregas’ leadership. Determined to keep his midfield prodigy despite strong interest from Inter Milan during the transfer window, Fabregas successfully convinced both the player and Real Madrid to extend the arrangement.

The Spanish manager has never hidden his admiration for Paz, previously stating, “He is a very important player for our growth. We grew with him, and he grew with us.” This enduring faith and mutual trust have now been rewarded with Paz’s continued presence at Como for another season.
