He said, “I was fortunate to have got the opportunity to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib and before that, to appear before Sri Akal Takht Sahib at the call of Jathedar Sahib. We had a long, meaningful and constructive discussion with the respected Jathedar Sahib, along with the Cabinet Ministers and MLA of Punjab. I pray that Guru Sahib continues to shower His blessings on us all.”
Emphasizing on the highest respect for Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said, “Sri Akal Takht Sahib is a sacred institution that holds immense respect in the hearts of the people of Punjab and the Government of Punjab. We hold the Jathedar Sahib, this institution, the Sikh faith and Sri Guru Granth Sahib in the highest respect.”
He said that keeping in mind the dignity and sanctity of the institution, it would not be appropriate to make the details of the discussions public. He further said, “The matters discussed at Sri Akal Takht Sahib will be brought to the notice of the government so that they can be properly considered. However, keeping in mind the dignity and respect of this sacred institution, it would not be appropriate to go into the details of the discussion.”
Meanwhile, Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Jathedar Sahib of Sri Akal Takht Sahib has given one month’s time to the Punjab government to consider the proposed changes and suggestions.
He said that the proposed changes and suggestions would be formally shared by the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. “Once the proposed amendments are received from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the government will review them in detail and take the appropriate decision after due consideration,” he said.
