A trainee pilot was seriously injured after being struck by the rotating propeller of a trainer aircraft at Kanpur's Chakeri Airport on Friday, prompting the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to launch a formal investigation into the incident.
The aviation regulator has also removed the instructor involved from flying training duties until the inquiry is completed.
Incident Occurred After Aircraft Landed
According to the DGCA, the accident took place after a Tecnam P2006T twin-engine trainer aircraft (registration VT-NBV), operated by Garg Aviation, completed a scheduled night training sortie.
After the aircraft landed, the trainee pilot disembarked while one of the aircraft's engines was still running. During the process, the cadet came into contact with the spinning propeller and suffered injuries to the back.
The injured trainee was immediately taken to a hospital in Kanpur for medical treatment.
DGCA Orders Investigation
Following the incident, the DGCA initiated an investigation to determine how the safety lapse occurred.
As an immediate precaution, the regulator has directed that the instructor associated with the flight be taken off flying training responsibilities pending the outcome of the inquiry.
In addition, the aircraft involved in the accident has been grounded and will remain out of service until investigators complete their examination.
