Manchester United are reportedly preparing a major move to secure Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior this summer, aiming to fulfil manager Michael Carrick’s ambition to bring in a world-class attacker.
The Red Devils have already agreed a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, with the Brazilian international set to join the club once the World Cup concludes.
Additionally, journalist Pipe Sierra from AS Colombia has reported that young talent Cristian Orozco will travel to Manchester on Sunday for a medical at Old Trafford. Sierra stated that Orozco, aged 17, will be accompanied by Manchester United’s Chief Scout Giuseppe Antonaccio and will join the team’s under-21 pre-season training camp in Germany. Orozco, who came through Club de Pies a Cabeza and Academia Rojo FC, is expected to be officially unveiled soon.
Despite strengthening their midfield with Ederson, United are still seeking at least one more midfielder this transfer window, while a left-back and a left-winger also remain priorities for the club.
Following last summer’s attacking signings of Mateus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko, United’s forward line has shown significant improvement. However, Carrick is said to be pushing for a marquee addition to elevate the team further.
Spanish media reports suggest that United are prepared to offer around €120 million (£104 million) to persuade Real Madrid to part with Vinicius Junior. The club’s leadership is believed to be seeking an attacking figurehead, and Carrick reportedly views Vinicius as the ideal choice to become the team’s main star, even ahead of Bruno Fernandes. The report indicates that United could make the Brazilian the highest-paid player in Premier League history, surpassing Erling Haaland’s current wages.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are expected to pose the biggest threat to United’s pursuit. The report claims PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is eager to sign Vinicius as a form of ‘revenge’ for the Kylian Mbappé saga. PSG are reportedly willing to convince the Brazilian to see out his current Real Madrid contract before joining them on a free transfer.
Meanwhile, Brazilian legend Zico has praised Vinicius Junior’s performances at the World Cup, where the Real Madrid star has registered four goals and one assist in just three matches for Brazil. Zico expressed his admiration, saying he was delighted to see Vinicius’ growth and dedication. “I’m happy for Vinicius. I like him a lot and I’ve watched him grow. I know how hard he has worked to get where he is. He is a model professional and a hard worker; it makes me happy to see a Flamengo lad doing so well, and I’m sure there’s plenty more yet to come, God willing.”
Zico further explained, “He has been consistent and is doing his job well. The fact that Carlo Ancelotti knows him well has helped a lot. Ancelotti positions him where he can be most effective, helps him play with confidence, and makes him the player Brazil look to for the finishing touch.”
He added, “That shows the difference a system can make; the numbers speak for themselves. It’s a system that allows him to perform at his best. He is very well prepared physically, technically, and emotionally. Yesterday alone, against Scotland, he could have scored four goals. Knowledge is everything in life – knowing how to get the best out of each player. That is what Ancelotti has been trying to do with Vinicius. He’s earned this moment.”
