Kokrajhar, June 28: A five-year-old boy was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in Dirringapur village, located in Assam's Baksa district. Authorities have detained the child's mother for questioning regarding the incident.

The victim has been identified as Rwnbir Singh Boro. Initial police reports indicate that the child may have been killed by his mother, Neosi Boro.

The tragic event unfolded on Saturday evening when the child's father returned from the fields to find his son missing.

Local residents reported that despite the presence of his wife and elder daughter at home, the father was unable to locate the child.

A villager recounted, "The father came home around 5:30 PM after working in the fields. When he couldn't find his son, he and his elder daughter searched the village but to no avail."

The villager further stated, "He later searched around the house with a torch and discovered his son lying nearby with serious injuries."

Police subsequently recovered the body and transported it to Mushalpur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Family members informed the police that Neosi Boro had been receiving treatment for mental health issues.

A neighbor familiar with the family mentioned, "The father is suspicious of his wife due to her mental health struggles and ongoing treatment."

Upon receiving the report, a team from Barbari Police Station arrived at the scene and took the mother into custody for further questioning.

Investigators are currently reviewing all aspects of the case, including testimonies from family members and other evidence, to clarify the circumstances surrounding the child's death.

As of now, police have not released an official statement regarding the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
