6 Indian heroes were martyred in ‘Operation Sindoor’, their names released for the first time

New Delhi, June 26. For the first time, the central government has officially revealed the names of six Indian soldiers who were martyred during ‘Operation Sindoor’, the cross-border military operation launched in May last year to destroy terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The names of these six soldiers have been published in the ‘Roll of Honour’ section of the National War Memorial website and are also inscribed at the National War Memorial in New Delhi. This is the first formal public recognition of the loss of life and property suffered by the Indian Armed Forces during this operation.

Names of martyred brave soldiers :-

  1. Subedar Major Pawan Kumar (10 Infantry Brigade).
  2. Rifleman Sunil Kumar (Vir Chakra, 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry).
  3. Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar (5 Field Regiment).
  4. Aviation Technician Mood Muralinaik (851 Light Regiment).
  5. Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh (237 Field Workshop Company).
  6. Sergeant Surendra Kumar (Vayu Sena Medal, 39 Wing).

The names of these soldiers have been engraved in the section of ‘Wall 3D’ of the memorial, which is dedicated to the military personnel who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country.

It is noteworthy that from the time ‘Operation Sindoor’ started till today, no one officially knew how many soldiers India had lost. Although similar reports kept coming in the media, the government never confirmed it. The government has not yet officially disclosed the identity of the soldiers killed in ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The government has already honored two of the martyred soldiers.

Among these brave martyrs, the government has honored Sergeant Surendra Kumar with Vayu Sena Medal and Rifleman Sunil Kumar with Vir Chakra. The names of all these have been registered on the National War Memorial. This memorial records the names of those who were martyred in various military operations and conflicts after independence.

The publication of the names in the National War Memorial’s ‘Roll of Honour’ is the first official confirmation of the deaths of the armed forces personnel who lost their lives during this operation. ‘Operation Sindoor’ was launched on the morning of May 7, 2025, after the Pahalgam attack.

It happened in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack. ‘Operation Sindoor’

‘Operation Sindoor’ began a few weeks after the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 civilians were killed. Indian Armed Forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and targeted infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. India and Pakistan had agreed to stop military action on May 10 after talks between the ‘Directors General of Military Operations’ of the two countries.
