Ivory Coast and RB Leipzig’s rising star Yan Diomande has added another milestone to his name in what has been a closely watched summer, as the 19-year-old once again showcased his talent in the match against Curaçao.
With the Elephants vying for automatic qualification to the Round of 32 as runners-up to Germany in Group E, an early strike from Nicolas Pépé put Emerse Faé’s side firmly on track to achieve that goal in Philadelphia.
Diomande, who has attracted attention from major European clubs such as Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain following an outstanding 2025/26 Bundesliga season in Leipzig, has now set a new national record to further enhance his growing reputation.
By providing the assist for Pépé’s 7th-minute opener, Diomande (aged 19 years and 223 days) has become the youngest player ever to record a direct goal involvement for Ivory Coast at a World Cup.
With every contribution he makes in goals or assists throughout this tournament, the young midfielder’s market value is expected to rise even higher, much to the delight of his current club RB Leipzig.
