Manchester City have reportedly reached a £116 million agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson, marking the end of a transfer saga that has unfolded over almost three months. The England international is scheduled to undergo his medical in the United States while he remains on World Cup duty with the national team.

Agreement sealed with Nottingham Forest

As per Fabrizio Romano, the total amount of the transfer is £116 million with no add-ons included. Nottingham Forest had previously rejected several initial offers from Manchester City’s management during the summer window, but an agreement has now been finalised. Anderson has received permission to complete his medical evaluation in the US.

Maresca’s first signing set to arrive

This transfer marks a significant tactical move for City as they prepare for the post-Pep Guardiola era under incoming manager Enzo Maresca. Anderson’s relentless energy, defensive awareness, and powerful forward runs have been identified as the ideal attributes to complement Spanish midfielder Rodri in the long term. His signing also acts as a major reinforcement following Bernardo Silva’s recent departure to Real Madrid, which left a noticeable void in City’s midfield.

City to break transfer record

While Nottingham Forest will suffer the sporting loss of their standout performer, the financial return is extraordinary for a player who was originally brought in from Newcastle for a much smaller fee. Manchester United had shown early interest but ultimately backed out, unwilling to meet Forest’s stringent valuation. Manchester City remained undeterred and are now poised to surpass their own club record transfer fee of £100 million, previously paid to acquire Jack Grealish from Aston Villa in 2021.

What lies ahead for Anderson?

For now, Anderson’s attention remains on England’s World Cup campaign. He has featured in both of their opening matches against Croatia and Ghana and is expected to keep his place in the starting lineup for Saturday’s crucial fixture against Panama. A victory in that game would secure England’s position at the top of Group L.
