The Hellion Aspect is one of the most exciting additions introduced in Destiny 2 through The Final Shape expansion. Designed for Warlocks, this Solar Aspect gives players access to a powerful companion that attacks enemies automatically and spreads Scorch damage. It works on both Solar and Prismatic builds, making it a popular choice for players who enjoy aggressive ability-based gameplay.

What Is the Hellion Aspect in Destiny 2?

Hellion is a Solar Aspect available exclusively for Warlocks. When you activate your class ability, a floating Solar mortar appears beside you. This companion launches explosive projectiles at nearby enemies and applies Scorch stacks. Repeated hits can eventually trigger Ignitions, allowing you to deal impressive damage to groups of enemies.

Because of its effectiveness, Hellion has become a favorite option for both Solar Warlocks and Prismatic Warlocks.

Some of its main features include:

  • Summons a Solar companion after using your class ability.
  • Fires projectiles automatically at enemies.
  • Applies Scorch effects.
  • Helps trigger Solar Ignitions.
  • Works well in PvE activities and endgame content.

Requirements to Unlock Hellion

Before trying to obtain Hellion, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Own the Destiny 2: The Final Shape expansion.
  • Play as a Warlock character.
  • Progress through The Final Shape campaign.

Without the expansion, you cannot unlock this Aspect.

How to Get the Hellion Aspect

Unlocking Hellion is fairly straightforward. Unlike some older subclass upgrades that required separate quests, Hellion is tied directly to The Final Shape campaign.

Step 1: Start The Final Shape Campaign

Launch The Final Shape story and begin progressing through the missions in the Pale Heart of the Traveler.

You do not need to complete special objectives beforehand. Simply continue playing through the campaign.

Step 2: Reach the Story Mission That Rewards Hellion

As you progress through the campaign, you will eventually encounter a special chest connected to the story. Opening this chest rewards Warlocks with the Hellion Aspect.

The chest is part of the campaign itself, meaning it cannot be skipped accidentally during normal progression.

Step 3: Equip Hellion

After unlocking it, visit your subclass menu.

Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Character screen.
  2. Select your Solar or Prismatic subclass.
  3. Navigate to the Aspect section.
  4. Choose Hellion.
  5. Confirm your loadout.

Once equipped, activating your class ability will summon the Solar companion.

Can You Miss the Hellion Aspect?

Most players receive Hellion naturally while completing the campaign. However, some players who rushed through missions or switched characters have reported missing it.

Fortunately, there are ways to recover it.

If you have already finished The Final Shape campaign and still do not have Hellion, continue completing post-campaign activities inside the Pale Heart. Additional quests and objectives eventually provide access to missing subclass upgrades.

How Hellion Works

The Aspect activates whenever you use your class ability.

Depending on your setup, this means:

  • Casting Healing Rift.
  • Casting Empowering Rift.
  • Using Phoenix Dive.

After activation, a Solar construct appears beside you and attacks enemies automatically. It stays active for a limited duration and continuously launches fiery projectiles.

Enemies struck by these attacks become Scorched. Building enough Scorch stacks eventually triggers an Ignition, creating a large explosion that damages surrounding foes.

Best Pairings for Hellion

Hellion becomes even stronger when combined with other Solar abilities.

Popular combinations include:

Heat Rises

Heat Rises increases mobility and improves airborne effectiveness. It also works exceptionally well with Phoenix Dive, allowing frequent Hellion activations.

Touch of Flame

This Aspect enhances Solar grenades and creates strong ability synergy.

Phoenix Dive

Phoenix Dive has a shorter cooldown than Rift abilities, making it easier to summon Hellion more often.

Prismatic Builds

Prismatic Warlocks can combine Hellion with several powerful Aspects, including:

  • Feed the Void.
  • Bleak Watcher.
  • Weaver’s Call.
  • Lightning Surge.

These combinations create unique builds capable of handling difficult activities.
