Manchester United legend David Beckham is set for a huge financial windfall, thanks to a series of World Cup sponsorship deals that highlight his enduring global appeal.
Although Beckham retired from professional football years ago, his influence in the world of brand endorsements remains as strong as ever.
The Inter Miami co-owner recently became the first British sportsperson to reach billionaire status. Together with his wife, Victoria Beckham, the former Spice Girl, he now commands a combined net worth reported to be around £1.185 billion.
During his illustrious playing career, Beckham earned immense sums through successful spells at Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, and LA Galaxy.
The turning point in his financial journey came with his move to Major League Soccer. Under the designated player rule, Beckham earned an annual salary of £4.9 million. However, the true value of the deal lay in its additional benefits, including personal endorsements and a share of the club’s revenue from ticket sales, sponsorships, and merchandise.
When Beckham joined LA Galaxy in 2007, his contract included an exclusive option to buy an MLS expansion club for $25 million. He exercised this clause in 2014, selecting Miami as the base for his team. That decision proved visionary, as Inter Miami is now valued between $1.3 billion and $1.5 billion, largely boosted by the arrival of Lionel Messi.
While Beckham never lifted the World Cup trophy as a player for England, he has become one of the tournament’s major financial winners off the pitch, with the substantial sum he is expected to earn from global endorsements.
At 51, Beckham continues to feature in high-profile campaigns for some of the world’s biggest brands, including Lay’s, Adidas, Home Depot, McDonald’s, Bank of America, and Stella Artois.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Beckham’s earnings from these partnerships are projected to reach approximately £19 million.
Marketing Made Clear commented on the continued appeal of the former United star, stating, “Brands work with Beckham because he is dependable and recognisable.”
Between 1992 and 2003, Beckham made 394 appearances for Manchester United, a period filled with trophies and personal accolades.
He found the back of the net 85 times and played a key role in helping United secure six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League trophy, and two FA Cups.
