Ronaldinho has stunned the football world by coming out of retirement to play again at the age of 46.
The legendary Brazilian and former Barcelona star has officially signed with Italian Serie C club Ravenna FC, as confirmed by the team.
Ronaldinho, whose last professional appearance came in 2015 with Fluminense, will be unveiled by Ravenna FC at a special event in Miami on 23rd June. In addition to returning to the pitch, he also holds shares in the club.
Explaining his decision to join the Italian side, Ronaldinho said, “New colours, same smile. I cannot wait to dance with the ball and write a beautiful new story with Ignazio Cipriani and the Cipriani family.”
He added, “Football has always been a source of happiness for me, and I’m eager to bring that joy to Ravenna. Let the magic begin!”
Ravenna FC is owned by Italian entrepreneur Ignazio Cipriani, who leads a luxury hospitality and residential group. Cipriani completed his acquisition of the club in 2024. Former AC Milan executive Ariedo Braida serves as Ravenna’s vice-president.
Cipriani described Ronaldinho’s signing as “an extraordinary moment for the club”.
He said, “Ronaldinho was my idol growing up, and his influence on the sport goes far beyond the football pitch. Beyond what he contributes on the field, I hope his presence inspires a new generation of supporters to fall in love with Ravenna FC and join us in shaping the future.”
During his illustrious career, Ronaldinho played a pivotal role in Brazil’s 2002 FIFA World Cup triumph and Barcelona’s UEFA Champions League victory in 2006. He also won the Ballon d’Or in 2005. The Brazilian maestro previously represented AC Milan, where he lifted the Serie A title during his three-year spell in Italy.
