Thomas Muller has encouraged Bayern Munich to keep an eye on Switzerland’s rising star Johan Manzambi after the Freiburg midfielder produced a stellar performance in his nation’s World Cup victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 20-year-old came off the bench to score twice, earning the Man of the Match award and further building on his breakout Bundesliga season.
Impact from the bench
Manzambi made a significant difference in Switzerland’s 4-1 triumph against Bosnia and Herzegovina at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Coming on as a substitute, he broke the deadlock just two minutes later with a thunderous volley in the 74th minute. He then added his second in the 90th minute to seal the win and claim the Man of the Match honour. The display enhanced his growing reputation after a strong season with Freiburg, where he contributed to 16 goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.
Muller impressed by Manzambi’s potential
Speaking as a pundit for MagentaTV, Muller highlighted Manzambi as a player that Bayern Munich should keep tabs on following his standout World Cup showing. The former Germany international expressed admiration for the young midfielder’s composure and influence on the game.
“For me, he is someone, and now we can make a headline, that FC Bayern should also look at,” Muller remarked.
Manzambi keeping his focus at Freiburg
Despite receiving high praise from a football legend like Muller, Manzambi remains grounded and focused on his current commitments. The midfielder is contracted to Freiburg until 2030 and has made it clear that he is concentrating on his ongoing World Cup campaign rather than transfer speculation.
When questioned about Muller’s suggestion that Bayern should pursue him, Manzambi responded with a laugh, saying, “I’m still in Freiburg. I’m focused on the World Cup. I don’t know what I’ll be doing next season.”
Switzerland aiming for group supremacy
Switzerland have collected four points from their first two matches and are in a strong position to advance to the knockout stage. Their final group game against Canada will determine who finishes at the top of the standings.
Following his decisive performance off the bench, Manzambi has made a strong case for inclusion in the starting lineup. Head coach Murat Yakin has hinted that the Freiburg midfielder may be rewarded with a place in the starting XI for the crucial fixture.
