Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly-led Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) is embroiled in a massive fight. CAB’s previous chief, Avishek Dalmiya and Ganguly are at loggerheads. Dalmiya apparently has alleged wrongdoings in the cricketing body, which the CAB has rejected.
Bengal’s cricketing body put out a letter to Indranil Khan, who happens to be the state’s sports minister, and denied any form of corruption. Dalmiya, in his letter to the minister, had sought a probe into alleged corruption and some sort of favouritism. This didn’t sit well with the current establishment, who shot a letter to explain their stance.
The letter read “Any complaint brought before the forum is treated with the highest degree of legal sanctity, impartiality, and transparency, entirely free from the interference of current office bearers”
“Given that a retired Chief Justice of the High Court heads this apex integrity mechanism within our constitution, bypassing this established judicial forum via open public letters appears to be an attempt to publicize sports governance issues rather than addressing genuine concerns through proper legal channels.” CAB’s letter further reads.
Former India skipper had earlier filed a case against a fan page
The 53-year-old ex-Indian captain was recently in the news for filing a police complaint against a fan page called ‘Sourav Ganguly Fans’. Prince of Kolkata, as he is fondly called, went to the Thakurpukur Police station and said the fan page in question was maligning his name and reputation.
Written complaint read “Being a public figure, I understand that opinions and criticism are a part of public life; however, spreading misleading, defamatory, and damaging content with the intention of harming my reputation is unacceptable and requires appropriate legal action.”
Sourav retired from international cricket in 2012 and also played IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders and Pune Warriors. He was also the head of BCCI for a while before returning to the Bengal cricket fold. Avishek is the son of the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, who was not only the BCCI chief but also served as ICC president.
