Toll Tax Update: The central government is planning to offer digital monthly and annual passes to local residents to simplify the toll system. This pass, linked to FASTag, will make toll payments easier.

FASTag Annual Pass: A major change in the toll tax system may be seen soon. Addressing the inconvenience faced by motorists, the central government is working on a plan to eliminate the hassle of making repeated payments at toll plazas. Under this new scheme, locals residing near toll plazas will be provided with digital monthly and annual passes.

Since this pass is linked to FASTag, you will not need to stop repeatedly to pay toll charges and can pass through the toll easily. The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways aims to make the toll system seamless. According to officials, this facility could be launched by next month.

Who is eligible for the FASTag monthly pass?

This monthly pass will be available to those living within a 20-kilometer radius of a toll plaza.
Those who own private (non-commercial) vehicles.
Under the new system, digital passes will be issued to vehicle owners based on their Aadhaar numbers.
Once the pass is linked directly to the FASTag, motorists will be able to pass through the toll plaza without stopping.
Currently, such locals are issued a ₹350 pass that allows them to cross the toll plaza any number of times within a month. Now, this system is being digitized and linked to FASTag.

What are the new rules?

This system eliminates the need for residents living within a 20-kilometer radius to visit the toll plaza physically. The pass will be made available via the highway portal. The government states that this measure could significantly reduce irregularities at toll plazas. This is particularly relevant for those who used to cross the toll without a pass by claiming to be local residents. With the introduction of the digital system, such vehicles can now be identified immediately, and e-notices can be issued to them. However, the price of the new digital pass has not yet been determined. Under the old rules, locals used to pay ₹350 for a monthly pass.
