Tezzbuzz Desk- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shared its preliminary plans for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027. According to the proposed schedule, the tournament is likely to start from March 10 and is set to conclude by May 15. This step of BCCI is being taken with the aim of protecting the players from the scorching heat and difficult weather conditions.
According to BCCI, extreme heat and heat wave conditions occur in many parts of India after mid-May. Keeping this in mind, it is being considered to start IPL 2027 relatively soon. This will help in reducing the impact on the performance and health of the players.
BCCI has also clarified its position on the discussions about increasing the number of matches in IPL 2027. The board says that at present only the format of 74 matches will continue in the tournament and no plan like holding 94 matches is being considered.
According to BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia, this topic has definitely been discussed, but it is not possible to implement it right now. He said that the final decision will be taken keeping in mind the schedule of the tournament and the convenience of the players.
IPL 2026 was organized from March 28 to May 31, during which the effect of increasing heat in many parts of the country was clearly visible on the players and match conditions. Based on this experience, BCCI is now working towards conducting the next edition earlier.
