Baidyanath Ghosh Dastidar, son of rebel Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has issued a legal notice to former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and TMC leaders Mahua Moitra, Kalyan Banerjee, Sougata Roy, and Sonali Guha. The notice denies allegations that Baidyanath sought a party ticket from the Barasat Assembly Constituency.
The development comes amid the TMC’s internal turmoil following a significant defeat in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The party faces pressure as several MPs and parliamentarians openly oppose Mamata Banerjee’s leadership and the influence of national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.
Baidyanath Ghosh took to He added, “100 % lies. Disagreements should be fought politically, not by dragging private individuals and family members into the dispute. I reserve my legal rights.”
In another post, he categorically denied claims that either he or his mother sought the Barasat Assembly ticket and rejected statements alleging that they consume alcohol.
The legal notice demands a public clarification and apology within 15 days. It states that Baidyanath “neither sought nor desired any nomination for the Barasat Assembly Constituency” and has no political ambition in this regard.
The notice describes Baidyanath as “a highly qualified psychiatrist who has undergone training and professional engagement at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, Beston, and the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, London,” and notes his reputation for academic excellence, professional integrity, and public respect.
It alleges that on various occasions, including media interviews and public statements, “insinuations and representations” suggested he had sought a political nomination from Barasat. It claims this supposed denial led to his mother adopting a dissident political stance.
The notice further states that representatives from the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) repeatedly approached Baidyanath, urging him to contest elections from Barasat. It also says TMC functionary Suhom Pal contacted him via WhatsApp on several occasions, encouraging him to contest and inviting him to attend health camps in Barasat.
Baidyanath has demanded a public apology within 15 days, emphasizing that any claim of his seeking a political nomination from Barasat is “false and defamatory.”
