Ismael Saibari may have produced the standout moment of World Cup 2026 so far.
The Moroccan forward seized on a piercing through ball that split the Brazilian defence wide open before delicately lifting the ball over goalkeeper Alisson.
The PSV Eindhoven attacker glided effortlessly between Marquinhos and Gabriel, connecting perfectly with a sublime through pass from Brahim Diaz.
We’ve already seen some fine finishes in this World Cup, but Saibari’s effort could well be the most impressive yet — particularly given that it came against Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil.
Morocco have been unfortunate not to extend their lead, with the score standing at just 1-0 despite their dominance.
For our part, this strike takes some beating, not only for its technical brilliance but for the composure and confidence Saibari displayed on such a grand stage.
Carlo Ancelotti opted for a slightly unconventional line-up for the match, deploying Roger Ibanez and Douglas Santos as full-backs and handing Brentford striker Igor Thiago a start up front.
Morocco began the stronger of the two sides in the opening ten minutes, pressing high and keeping Brazil penned inside their own half. Their early control was so complete that by the 11th minute Moroccan supporters were chanting ‘Ole’ with each pass their team completed.
Brazil were without Neymar for this encounter, a notable absence that clearly affected their attacking rhythm.
Igor Thiago, making his World Cup debut, had a golden chance to put Brazil ahead against the run of play around the 13-minute mark but failed to connect properly with a Vinicius Jr cross from just six yards out — a miss that could have changed the game’s momentum.
After that scare, Brazil began to settle and saw more of the ball. Around the 18th minute, Vinicius Jr managed to spin away from the Moroccan backline and fire his first meaningful shot of the tournament following a neatly worked team move.
Still, the moment that will be remembered from this clash is Saibari’s exquisite goal — a moment of pure class that could well stand as one of the defining highlights of World Cup 2026.
What do you think? Was this the best goal of the tournament so far?
