DON'T MISS ANY ACTION FROM THE WORLD CUP

Two suspects arrested after theft of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham’s boots from England camp before World Cup

Police authorities in Missouri have detained two individuals following the shocking theft of England national team equipment ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The incident has created an unexpected setback for Thomas Tuchel’s squad just days before their opening match against Croatia.

Suspects held following major equipment theft

The Kansas City Missouri Police Department confirmed that an investigation has been launched after a vehicle carrying England’s training and match gear was targeted. The theft reportedly took place while the team’s equipment was being transported to the Three Lions’ tournament base, prompting an immediate police operation in the surrounding area.

In a statement to Sky Sports News, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Missouri Police Department said: “We are investigating a possible theft of equipment from a team vehicle that arrived in Kansas City with items missing this evening. Two subjects of interest were taken into custody pending further investigation.”

Kane and Bellingham’s personalised boots among stolen items

The scale of the theft has raised serious concerns within the England camp, particularly because some of the missing gear belonged to key players. Reports suggest that custom-made football boots belonging to captain Harry Kane and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham were among the stolen items.

The loss of such specialised equipment is significant, as modern football boots are often individually designed to suit each player’s comfort and performance needs. In addition to footwear, the thieves allegedly stole several match balls and vital training equipment, forcing the England backroom staff to urgently source replacements in Kansas City.

Logistical setback for Thomas Tuchel and his team

The theft occurred during the transition from England’s pre-tournament training camp in West Palm Beach, Florida, to their official World Cup base at Swope Soccer Village. Staff discovered the missing items on Friday evening when they began unloading the vehicle.

The stolen haul reportedly included tactical and analysis devices, massage tables, and other essential recovery equipment used in elite football preparation. According to some reports, the damage was so extensive that the team was left with only one official football following the incident.

Race against time before opening match with Croatia

As England prepare for their World Cup opener, they find themselves in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Their first match against Croatia is scheduled for June 17. The team is now racing to replace the stolen gear, though kit manufacturers typically have contingency resources. However, the level of customisation for players such as Kane and Bellingham means that exact replacements may not be easily available at short notice.

This incident adds to a growing list of issues surrounding the tournament, which has already faced complications with visa and entry approvals — including Somali referee Omar Artan being denied entry to the United States and Canada’s Thomas Partey facing similar challenges. Security and environmental concerns have also mounted, with a recent shooting near Argentina’s team hotel in Kansas City heightening fears. Meanwhile, other teams have reported strange environmental hazards: Switzerland’s training base in San Diego was officially marked near a ‘rattlesnake zone,’ while Portugal’s camp in Florida had to respond to sightings of three large alligators near their facilities.
