Cricket Gully | June 13, 2026 11:39 PM CST

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz plays one of the finest knocks of his ODI career with sensational century against India in the first ODI of the series in Dharamshala.

Reduced to 25 overs per side due to rain, the match was not going to be easy for India and it did not end up easy as Gurbaz decided to launch the offensive on the Indian bowlers right from the word go and completed his ton in just 48 balls. He remains unbeaten on 100 off 48 balls with the help of eight fours and as many as eight sixes at the time of writing.

His stunning innings bailed Afghanistan out of trouble after three quick wickets and took the visitors into a commanding position.

Gurbaz achieves several records

This was his ninth century in ODI cricket and the first against India. More importantly, this was Afghanistan's quickest ODI ton.

The 48-ball century erased the previous record of Afghanistan's fastest century and put the Gurbaz in the list of fastest players to have completed their century against India in ODIs.

Fastest centuries in ODI against India:

  • 45 balls - Shahid Afridi, Kanpur, 2005
  • 48 balls - Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Dharamshala, 2026
  • 57 balls - James Faulkner, Bengaluru, 2013
  • 57 balls - AB de Villiers, Mumbai, 2015
  • 57 balls - Michael Bracewell, Hyderabad, 2023
  • 58 balls - AB de Villiers, Ahmedabad, 2010

The wicketkeeper batter is now the second fastest batter ever to score a hundred against India in ODIs and fastest for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan innings after losing early wickets

Afghanistan didn't have the best of starts as they lost the three top-order batters Ibrahim Zadran, Sediqullah Atal, and Rahmat Shah to leave the visitors on 26/3.

Pacer Arshdeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar gave India the early breakthroughs, but it was Gurbaz who completely changed the momentum in the game with his aggressive stroke play and was joined by captain Hashmatullah Shahidi as they stitched a partnership to repair the innings and take their side in a dominant position by scoring quick runs.

In a rain-curtailed affair, Rahmanullah Gurbaz has put the visitors in the driver's seat in the first ODI against India with one of the quickest centuries in ODI against the Men in Blue.
