Anthony Martial Faces Another Major Blow in His Football Career After Leaving Rayados

Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has encountered yet another setback in his professional journey, as confirmed by football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Martial left Manchester United in May 2024 after joining the club in 2015 from AS Monaco. Back then, he was widely regarded as one of the most talented young players in world football, and his signing was considered a significant success for the Red Devils.

The French attacker made an immediate impact at Old Trafford, notably scoring a stunning solo goal against long-time rivals Liverpool in his debut season.

That same season, he lifted his first trophy with the club, winning the FA Cup under the management of Louis van Gaal.

During his time with United, Martial also claimed two Carabao Cup titles and was part of José Mourinho’s squad that completed the club’s full set of major honours by winning the Europa League in 2017.

Despite flashes of brilliance, Martial’s overall spell at Old Trafford was seen as underwhelming. His inability to consistently perform at the top level was attributed to both fitness issues and a lack of sustained form.

His best season came during the 2019/20 campaign when he finished as United’s top scorer with 23 goals in all competitions. Across nine seasons, he made 317 appearances for the 20-time English champions, netting 90 goals. His final outing for the club came on 9 December 2023, in a Premier League match against Bournemouth.

Following his departure from United, Martial moved to Greek Super League outfit AEK Athens, where he showed early promise and appeared to be on the path to revitalising his career after his struggles in England.

However, his form dipped again, and his stint with the Greek side ended in September 2025. Shortly thereafter, the French striker joined Liga MX side Monterrey (Rayados), signing a two-year contract that was set to run until 2027.

Romano has now confirmed that Martial and Rayados have mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The Italian journalist reported on X, “EXCL: Anthony Martial and Rayados have agreed on contract termination on a mutual agreement.”

He added, “The French striker leaves the Mexican side as a free agent.”

The 30-year-old featured in only 20 matches across all competitions for Rayados, scoring one goal and providing three assists. The 2026 Clausura campaign proved disappointing for the Mexican club, as they finished 13th in the league standings and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

With his contract now cancelled, Martial is once again in search of a new club as he looks to reignite his career in a fresh environment.
